YOUNG#NINE

This tape is a mystery. No artist mentioned, no title, no track names, just the catalog number: YOUNG#NINE. Odder still is its release being recent, around the same time as other Young Tapes such as YOUNG#EIGHTEEN and YOUNG#NINETEEN. I might merely be missing something, but I saw no announcement from Peter F. (who runs the label) mentioning this tape, and was sold out from the source when I noticed its existence. No idea what the edition might be, but all Young Tapes releases must be low runs judging from how quickly they are sold out.

Ran into some problems tagging track 1 for this release; information is properly displayed in Foobar2000, but not in Windows Explorer or dBpoweramp's ID3 tagging utility. If this matters to you, please check it out before listening.

Prurient - Dracula Syndrome

2002 Prurient, as he was still refining his progression from found sound/improvised percussion to balls-out harsh noise cut-ups. This first release on Immaculate:Grotesque's Truculent Recordings was limited to 100 copies, containing a C30 and a C50 for over an hour of noise. Still kind of unclear to me whether or not my copy is a special edition, as others I have asked who own it did not have theirs lashed to a piece of doll furniture as pictured. In any event, the contents of the tapes appear to be the same. Downloading both archives is necessary.

Masonna - Compilation 1987-1992

Rare as rare can be, didn't even show up in a huge Masonna collection recently auctioned off on ebay. This tape, limited to 50 copies, has a single compilation track comprising many individual segments of Masonna material between the dates mentioned, mostly unreleased it seems. The flip has a live track recorded at Bears in 1992, with an audience list printed below that includes Yamatsuka Eye, Masahiko Ohno, the late Shohei Iwasaki, and most likely David Hopkins.

Heart2Heart / Impregnable

2006 split on Impregnable's own Callow God featuring defunct Providence chicknoise outfit Heart2Heart on the a-side. 75 copies, I think.

Jason Crumer - Walk With Me (Live)

In late 2008, prior to the release of his most recent full-length noise CD Walk With Me, Jason Crumer of American Band, Facedowninshit, and Aluminum Noise put out this private cassette edition containing a live rendition of the titular track and a great b-side featuring a lovely rambling junkie. There were six copies produced with completely unique, handmade packaging.

Pedestrian Deposit + Prurient - Red Head

An apparently rather limited tape on RRRecords from 2004, I find the claim that this is an edition of 48 copies dubious, as I was able to get a copy relatively recently for quite cheap. In any event, this single-sided cassette has some fantastic noise from these two heavyweights. I've been told that my rip is an improvement in quality compared to whatever else is floating around out there. If you're downloading this you probably know what you're in for.

A1: Sap
A2: Collar
A3: Apple Core
A4: Streaks

Treetops - Giant Earth

Mikey Mike Pollard, master of Arbor, continues his prolific output in this 2008 cassette on Sick Head. It's three wonderful tracks of the lo-fi, churning abstractions he's known for. All kinds of wonderful.

A1: Beyond
A2: They Are Land
B: I Lost Mine In The River

Color Dream - Cloud Factory

One of the earliest releases from this collaborative project of the heads of two of the neatest labels around at the moment, Arbor and Young Tapes, Mike Pollard and Peter F a twenty minute lo-fi cruise over a synth sea split over two double sided tapes. Steve Young - Michael Jordan

2008 release from the master of deep space / currently of Young Tapes formerly of JK Tapes, the wonderful Peter F. Side A begins with a lovely synth melody lightly dusted with a trace of melancholy, one of the more beautiful things I've heard in the past few years. Side B pairs a day on the coast with soft swishing lines, abruptly started and re-started in mid sequence yet never in a jarring manner. 40 copies on Arbor with zine.

Really Depressing - Untitled

This is a really weird one-off collab between Heath Moerland and Wes Weaver on Heath's Fag Tapes label. It's FT033, which would probably put it around 2005, and is listed as being out of print on Heath's personal discography, but he is still selling it for $9 on discogs.com. It's some really wicked, slow, meandering shit that sounds like some sorta 70's purgatory with some field recording of what seems like a vert skateboarding ramp to boot. 8 untitled tracks. 50 copies.

Upcoming cassette rip blog

Hi, I hope to post tapes I rip myself here on a semi-regular basis, all noise and new age and other weird crap

Only out of print stuff and whatever's no longer available from the artist/label/etc (trying to stick to this but it gets tough sometimes)

This will continue until I get bored or something

If you are an artist or label person who wants your stuff removed you can get at me here and I'll take care of it
